Kouts High School was one of several schools to host sectionals games Friday night. The Washington Township Senators beat the 21st Century Charter Cougars in the first game of the night with a close score of 57-55. Additionally, in the second game of the night, the Kouts Mustangs defeated the Morgan Township Cherokees 85-56.
The Senators and Cougars went shot-for-shot the entire game, with the Senators leading by one point at the half with a score of 28-27. In the final minute of the game, the Cougars were ahead by four points. Due to a three pointer by Washington Township’s #10 Tyler Hachey in the last few seconds of the game, the team was able to win. Hachey was also the top scorer for the Senators, making 23 out of the team’s 57 points for the night. Head coach Scott Bowersock explained what he thought the team did best during the game.
“We just never quit,” Bowersock said. “We never stopped. Our guys just played together, and we came out on top.”
For the entire game, the Mustangs were leading against the Cherokees. At the half, the score was 38-23, and the Mustangs continued to hold on to the lead and claim their victory. Brothers Cole and Cale Wireman lead the team in scoring tonight, making 34 and 30 points respectively. The Mustangs head coach, Kevin Duzan, commented on how he and the team felt about the win.
“At this point in time you’re just happy to have another game,” said Duzan. “Our guys are excited for the opportunity tomorrow night against the good Washington Township team, and they want to win their first Sectionals. It’ll be a good match up, and we’ll have to be ready for them.”
The Senators will continue on to face the Mustangs in the sectional championship tomorrow night at 6 p.m., whereas the Cougars and Cherokees are done for the season.
