Walter Parris of East Chicago was presented with the WorkOne Achievement Award for overcoming several employment barriers and pursuing a better life for himself. He received the award today in a ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse.
Parris was put in touch with a WorkOne Career Advisor where he was able to receive free personal employment counseling, job search assistance, and IndianaCareerConnect.com job referrals. Parris’s tremendous will to succeed and a determination to accomplish his goal of re-establishing his CDL license paid off. With assistance from WorkOne, Parris was able to pass the required CDL tests and regain employment through his former employer.
“It is an honor to recognize Walter Parris for his efforts and persistence in re-establishing fulfilling employment,” said Steven J. Braun, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. “The next time you see a smiling truck driver pass you by, it might just be Walter Parris doing what he loves to do.”
The WorkOne Achievement Awards are awarded by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development to 12 individuals for their outstanding accomplishments while participating in the workforce development system. Twelve awards were also presented to employers who partner with WorkOne for their contribution to growing Indiana’s economy and commitment to their community. All of today’s recipients were nominated for the award by their local WorkOne center.
