1. Porter Continues a Great Holiday Tradition for the Health Care System's Family

On one of the last warm days of the year, members of Porter’s staff volunteered to hand out turkeys to the rest of the hard-working employees, physicians, volunteers, nurses, and the rest of the personnel who call Porter their second family.

2. Methodist Hospitals’ Northlake Campus is NWI’s 1st and Only Trauma Center

rot6Did you know that Methodist Hospitals’ Northlake Campus is Northwest Indiana’s only “in process” Level III trauma center? This designation positively affects the surrounding communities as it’s located in an industrial corridor in Gary, IN by three of the state’s busiest interstates. Before this, the closest trauma centers to Northwest Indiana were in South Bend, Chicago, and Oak Lawn.

3. Hundreds Enjoy a Scenic Race for a Great Cause at 2015 Hero Half Marathon & 10K

hero-halk-2015-1Sunday morning, hundreds of runners met at the beautiful Indiana Dunes State Park on the shoreline of Lake Michigan to compete in the 2015 Hero Half Marathon and 10K race. The impressive landscape provided drew the attention of runners from approximately 12 different states.

4. Methodist Hospitals Hosts Seminar Introducing Innovative New CardioMEMS

Methodist-Seminar-2015 5On Thursday, Methodist Hospitals held a seminar at their Southlake Campus in Merrillville which introduced patients to a new, innovative piece of cardiovascular technology called CardioMEMS. Methodist Hospitals is the first in the region to offer the device to those over the age of 65 who are suffering from heart failure or the potential signs and symptoms.

7. Hometown Happenings' Kids N Capes Raises Funds for Food Bank, Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana

Thanks to Hometown Happenings, and of course the superheroes that worked tirelessly to defend the park, Lake County Fair is now ridded of all evil.

8. Hundreds of Cyclists Show Support for Hospice of Calumet Area with 2015 Hospice Hustle

2015-hospice-hustle-1On Sunday morning, approximately 300 cyclists converged on the Lake County Fairgrounds to kick off the 11th Annual Hospice Hustle, hosted by Hospice of the Calumet Area. The event co-chairs, Dr. Gus Galante, and Bill Hasse, Hasse Construction, welcomed the group and were on hand to offer support and instruction, before embarking on the ride themselves. Both Galante and Hasse, avid cyclists, have co-chaired the event all 11 years.

10. Duneland Family YMCA Gets Healthy with the Community at Walkin' Wednesdays

Walkin-Weds 1As the leaves turn colors, the warm wind blows through the air, creating the perfect temperature the Walkin’ Wednesday group. The group meets at the Duneland Chamber of Commerce for a 5k walk every Wednesday at 4:15pm and they around Chesterton starting and ending at the Chamber.
