The City of Crown Point continued its impressive run of July events on Friday with the opening night of the Taste of Crown Point. Local restaurants served up their best dishes, while a variety of bands put on a show at Bulldog Park’s Franciscan Health Amphitheater.
There was a flavor for just about every appetite: barbeque from True BBQ, pizza from Tomato Bar and Battista’s, Mexican from La Quesadilla, and many more. Crown Point institutions and fresh new businesses all served their fare to a crowd that filled Bulldog Park to capacity. It was a return to normalcy for a city that prides itself on community.
“For everybody across the board, not just the City of Crown Point, 2020 was hard,” Mayor David Uran said. “Our Ma and Pa shops here in the city, our residents who might’ve been struggling for employment opportunities. Now we’re getting past that, getting back together, and getting reacquainted with the community.”
The festival is the third major event organized by the city so far this month, after the 4th of July Parade and Thompson Square Concert. Other events, such as weekly cruise nights and farmers markets, have also packed the schedule.
“This facility, Bulldog Park, was built exactly for these kinds of events,” Uran said. “This is an opportunity for neighbors to get back together, meet new friends, and really have that fun, family atmosphere.
Diana Bosse, special events administrator for the city, and her team coordinated the city’s major events, including the Taste of Crown Point.
“It’s been great, I’m really happy with how things have turned out with the events this season,” she said. “I know people are excited to get back out and enjoy what the community has to offer. The city is just happy to be providing events for our community again.”
The Taste of Crown Point continues tomorrow from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Musical performances will start at 4:15 p.m. when Triway takes the stage, followed by the Megabeatles between 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Keep up to date with all of Crown Point’s latest events and celebrations at www.facebook.com/CPSpecialEvents.
