On Sunday, December 3 families from the Lake Station community gathered at the American Legion Post 100 to indulge in a delightful breakfast and pictures with Santa. Local businesses set up shop around the perimeter of the room to spread the word about their services to the community.
“I have been here a few weekends in a row and the breakfasts have been really nice and very enjoyable. Being able to see these kids come in and meet Santa has been great,” said Dawn Haskell, brand partner at Lifewave.
While excited children anxiously waited in line for their chance to talk to Santa, their parents had the opportunity to interact with local businesses and their community neighbors. This was the exact goal in mind when planning the “Breakfast with Santa” event.
“Sitting here, seeing the kids excited about the season and getting to see Santa just warms our hearts. We are here to support the community and be active. This is our third year and every year it just gets better and better,” said Diana Hinrichsen, secretary for the Lions Club.
Businesses in the area that attended this event benefited tremendously. From a cigar shop to a woodworking business, there was quite a variety available to the public.
“It is wonderful. It helps promote these businesses. We have so many local artisans that are just amazing. They help get their crafts out to the public,” said Hinrichsen.
Lake Station representatives have tried to build a great community and watch it grow in the years to come. Events like this are just a vital stepping stone in that process to get where they want to be.
“It's all about making positive memories and the way this community has come together. It is also the way that all the different organizations have come together to emphasize our community. It is really important for us as a city moving forward. Their sense of community is just outstanding,” said the Mayor of Lake Station, Bill Carroll.
As some would call Christmas the most wonderful time of the year, the holiday spirit was in full effect. By the show of support this event received, the city of Lake Station is certainly on track for the success and growth that they were hoping for.
“It's an effort by everybody. We have got a really good group of people who care about the city and want the city to do the best it possibly can be. So that starts with the mayor down to our police chief, who is also the commander of the Legion. It continues down to our fire chief and even to our co-workers. It is great to have people who live in the city and care about the city because it shows. We are very blessed to have that. We have a good group of people who are constantly trying to do the best for the city, and we will never stop," said Carroll.
