St. Mary Crown Point Expands Preschool Program for 2nd Straight Year

St-Mary-PK-2St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point is expanding its preschool program for the second straight year.

Students who are four-years-old before August 1st can attend one of four pre-kindergarten classes. Two classes will be offered during the morning, and two classes will be offered in the afternoon. All four classes meet five days a week.

St. Mary school will double its offering for "junior" pre-kindergarten for students who are three-years-old before August 1st. A new classroom will opened and four class options will be available. Parents may choose morning or afternoons sessions of a three-day program which meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or a two-day program which meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The goal of preschool teachers Mardee Saad and Dee Samyn is to help students build confidence through social interaction and teach age-appropriate skills. Their fun and creative curriculum promotes reading and math readiness, as well as stimulates creative brain development through music, art, and dramatic play. "We believe that in the pre-kindergarten years, all children learn naturally when in a positive, engaging environment," said Saad, who also serves as the Director of Preschool. "We prepare children for kindergarten by fostering confidence and developing social skills. Our child-centered program provides essential pre-reading, writing, and math skills needed for kindergarten while giving children the opportunity to grow spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically. Religion is taught daily while themes of faith are carefully interwoven throughout the curriculum."

Applications for all grade levels can be obtained at St. Mary School's office, 405 E. Joliet Street in Crown Point. For more information or to schedule a tour of the school, please call the school office at 219-663-0676.
