The free Stroke & Diabetes Awareness Fair is from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16 at The Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. Topics at the event include:
- 8 a.m. – Stroke is an Emergency – Call 911, presented by Andrea DeLeo, DO, medical director, St. Catherine Hospital Stroke Center
- 9 a.m. – Stroke Alert – Immediate Care Awaits, presented by Mark Simaga, MD, medical director, St. Mary Medical Center Stroke Center
- 10 a.m. – Surgical Management of Stroke, presented by Aamir Badruddin, MD, medical director, Community Hospital Stroke Center
- 11 a.m. – Food for Thought, presented by Terri Sakaleris, registered dietitian, Community Hospital Diabetes Center
- Noon – Managing Stroke Risk Factors, presented by Ender Akan, MD, medical director, Neurosciences, Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center
Event will offer hemoglobin A1C screenings and cholesterol testing. Fasting is recommended.
