Senior Forward Leads IUN with Career-High 38

iun-wbb-trio-2014Megan Holland showed up in a big way and her career night carried the RedHawks past the visiting Robert Morris Eagles. Robert Morris saw their 5 game winning streak end as Holland exploded for a career high 38 points and a game high 14 rebounds en route a 77-71 victory.

IUN 16-7 led by as many as 12 in the second half before a three point field for RMU's Tikeyah Johnson followed by an IUN turnover and three point play by Jailyn Norris cut the RedHawk lead to just one. Clutch free throws down the stretch by Holland and IUN freshman guard Nicki Monahan iced the game for IUN. Monahan finished with 21 points including 11-12 from the line. Monahan's jumper as time expired to end the first half gave IUN a 38-32 lead at the half. Holland converted 14-16 free throw attempts.

"Megan was sensational tonight as she had one of the all-time great performances in our program's history. We felt it was a favorable matchup for us in the paint and Megan put her team on her back in a big way tonight," said IUN Head Coach Ryan Shelton. Holland's 38 points is second only to Sharon Houston's 43 for most points in a single game in RedHawks history. Holland converted on 12-23 from the floor and has now scored at least 22 points in 6 straight games for IUN.

IUN junior center Danielle Zandstra tallied 11 rebounds and 9 assists and found Holland several times throughout the game for key baskets. The win was the fourth straight for IUN as the team improved to 11-1 at home this season. The RedHawks return to action this Saturday when they travel to Clinton, IA to face the Ashford Saints. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. central time.
