Wednesday night’s nail-biter game between the Munster Mustangs and the Lake Central Indians had fans on the edge of their seats. The Indians fell to the Mustangs 57 to 44 after a fierce battle for the chance to make it to game 5.

“I’m here to support my team because they’ve done a great job this year and we want to see them carry it out through sectionals,” said Zach Grunewald, senior at Munster High School. “I’ve known these guys my whole life so I just want to be there for their last ride whether they win or lose.”

The gymnasium was packed with diehard fans from all over the region, hoping to see their team make their way through the playoffs.

“Tonight, was a great game. It started out a little rocky and I thought the refs blew a couple of calls with our big guys but ultimately they ended up on top,” Grunewald added.

More than 70 students from LHS filled the student section to support their team. Directing the student section was Max Rosenbaum, in full Cherokee uniform.

Lake Central fans turned to social media to get the word out about tonight’s game. Rosenbaum said social media is key for planning nights like this.

“We got the message out on our student Twitter account,” Rosenbaum said. “We tweet what the themes and games will be every day until the game day, so everyone is up to date with all the new for the games.”

For others who’ve been anticipating this game all season, it was important to show their support to the team.

“We came to see Tyler Zabrecky,” said Munster resident Chiara Andrzejewski. “I’ve seen him play for a while now and because it’s his senior year I wanted to come support him and Munster. I want to wish them good luck with their next game!”
