Merrillville schools help with community coat drive

The Merrillville Community School Corporation is participating in Coats for Kids & Families, a communitywide effort to provide coats for children and families facing economic hardship. 

Community members are invited to donate new or gently-used coats to the non-profit organization through Oct. 22 by placing them in the designated bins located at the Merrillville intermediate or elementary schools. Light jackets and hoodies will not be accepted. 

All of these schools are accepting donations: Fieler Elementary School, 407 W. 61st Ave.; Iddings Elementary School, 7249 Van Buren St.; Merrillville Intermediate School, 1400 W. 61st Ave.; Miller Elementary School, 5901 Waite St.; Salk Elementary School, 300 W. 77th Ave.; and Wood Elementary School, 6100 E. 73rd. Ave.

Coats will be distributed to families in need from 9 a.m.-noon on these Saturdays at these locations: Nov. 6, River Forest High School, 3300 Indiana St., Hobart; Nov. 13, Merrillville Intermediate School, 1400 W. 61st Ave.; Nov. 20, Impact Christian Church, 7071 Broadway, Merrillville.
