September is Pediatric cancer awareness month and students at Liberty Elementary School (LES) in Chesterton participated in a weeklong Kindergarten and first grade service learning project to raise money for pediatric cancer. This is the sixth year that LES has participated. Throughout the week, some of the activities included coin collection, super hero day and a bake sale. As a culminating activity, the students, staff and families participated in a walk-a-thon during the school day. The students raised a total of $2,505.08 for Pediatric Awareness Cancer week. The proceeds will be divided in half between Rusty's Hope and NICK (Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation).
