Earvin “Magic” Johnson Headed to Gary, Indiana on April 28

Magic2The Gary Community School Corporation is teaming up with legendary NBA Hall of Famer, philanthropist and businessman, Earvin “Magic” Johnson to deliver “A Gary Promise” at 6 p.m. Monday, April 28 at the Genesis Convention Center.

The purpose of “A Gary Promise” is to provide scholarship opportunities for students that fulfill Indiana Core 40 requirements with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The fund will also support mentoring and enrichment programs, student leadership development training and career awareness projects for all grades.

Our ultimate goal is to accomplish a 100 percent graduation rate and assist students with identifying a post-secondary certification or training programs.

“Like Magic Johnson, “A Gary Promise” is visionary. It is urgent that we lay a solid foundation for improving the quality of life in urban areas,” said Dr. Cheryl Pruitt, Superintendent of the Schools. “It starts with preparing all students for college and career opportunities.”

The evening will include dinner, an inspirational message from Magic Johnson, a silent auction and entertainment.
