CMS Science Olympiad Team Qualifies for State
The Chesterton Middle School Science Olympiad team qualified for the state competition this past Saturday by placing second in a field of 17 teams in the Regional competition hosted at Indiana University Northwest.

Chesterton placed top three in 18 of 25 events at the competition with every single member earning a medal. The winning team was Thomas Jefferson of Valparaiso. CMS Students Circle the State with Song
Circle the State With Song is a statewide children’s choral festival created and sponsored by the Indiana Music Educators Association and included over 300 middle school students from Area 1-includes Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana. With the help of their music teacher Amy Otto, singers from Chesterton Middle School prepared the music in advance and came together for a Saturday rehearsal with a guest clinician, culminating in an afternoon performance at Hebron High School on Feb. 25. Author Allan Woodrow visits Jackson Elementary
Jackson Elementary students gather around Author Allan Woodrow (center) during a visit to the school recently. The author visit was a culminating event to their One School, One Book experience. Jackson’s OSOB selection this school year was The Pet Wars by Woodrow. The author visit was made possible by funding from the Duneland Education Foundation and the Jackson PTO who provided matching funds to support the event. Duneland students selected to participate in 42nd annual Porter Co. Arts-A-Budding Exhibit
The 42nd annual Porter County Arts-A-Budding student art exhibit begins on March 4 and will continue until March 14 at the Chapel of the Resurrection, Valparaiso University Campus. This exhibit is organized through volunteer efforts of the Porter County Visual Arts teachers and is sponsored by the Porter County Arts Commission in cooperation with the Bauer Museum of Art, Valparaiso University.

This is an exhibit of the best artwork produced by students’ grades Kindergarten-8th in Porter County. Visual Art teachers from across Porter County selected the top 11 pieces artwork done by their students during the past year. The art works done by these students include various media such as drawing, painting, printmaking, fiber art, sculpture, pottery and computer graphics.

These honored students, along with their families and friends are invited to the opening award reception on Sunday, March 12 at 2:00 p.m. At the reception, students will be publicly recognized for their accomplishment by name and will receive a ribbon. Each year the talents and accomplishments of more than 400 participants are recognized. Arts-A-Budding gives Porter County students an opportunity to exhibit their work and be rewarded for artistic merit. Visiting hours are weekdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; March 13 - March 15 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (visitors must enter through Helge Center) and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Closed at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11.

CHS Science Olympiad team headed to state
The Chesterton High School Science Olympiad Team placed second in the AA division at the regional Science Olympiad event hosted at Indiana University Northwest.
