CPHS Service Clubs and Community Team Up with Pack Away Hunger

CPHS-Service-Clubs-and-Community-Team-Up-with-Pack-Away-Hunger-2017Service club members from Crown Point High School and other community members teamed up with Pack Away Hunger last Saturday at Crown Point High School’s cafeteria.

“It was really fun. I met families from local churches who have packed food for the past 9 years,” CPHS senior and National Honor Society member Grace Cleland said. “When you have a big group you worry because it’s hard to get people to work well together, but everyone did such a good job. We had people from 7 to 70 working together peacefully. The whole entire thing was joyful,” CPHS senior and National Honor Society member Grace Cleland said.

The mission of Pack Away Hunger is to greatly improve the lives of children and others who suffer from hunger and malnutrition. The teams worked together to pack 120,528 meals. Team leader Carsten Falkenberg, who coordinates the local PAH events with his wife Georgia, said their goal is usually to distribute 90 percent of the meals directly or through the Northwest Indiana Food Bank with the remaining 10 percent going to a school in Haiti or Guatemala. This year the meals that are packed will be sent to Texas to help alleviate the great demand for hurricane disaster relief.

“I’ve seen a lot of devastation everywhere hurricanes hit,” CPHS senior and NHS member Alexia Wojciechowski said. “I have family in Florida and Texas, so I wanted to be able to help people any way I can.”
