Crown Point High School Varsity Football coach Craig Buzea was awarded this week’s Indianapolis Colts Coach of the Week.
Last week the Crown Point Bulldogs (6-0, No.5-Class 6A) defeated Valparaiso (Class 5A-No. 2), 19-14. The Bulldogs have won 15 straight regular season games. Buzea joined Crown Point in 2021 and was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame this past spring.
Mike Prior from the Indianapolis Colts visited Crown Point High School on Wednesday, and CPHS football players were on hand to watch the award presentation. “This award really belongs to you guys,” Buzea said. “I appreciate each of you and the hard work you bring to this team.”
Per the Indianapolis Colts’ website, all head coaches in the state of Indiana are eligible for this award, no matter the size of the school or league. Coaches are evaluated on various factors including the coach's impact on their team, school, and community, as well as the performance of the team. A panel of high school football media, former athletic directors, and other football representatives from across the state select each week’s winner.
“Beyond being a fantastic coach, Coach Buz has had a tremendous impact on our school and our community, so this award is well deserved,” Bill Dorulla, CPHS athletic director, said.
This week is Homecoming for CPHS and the Bulldogs face off against LaPorte High School on Friday at 7 p.m. Crown Point High School is a cashless gate. Tickets can be purchased online in advance at https://websites.eventlink.com/s/crown-point-high-school or by bringing a debit/credit card.
