An exhibition of original works of art by Southern Shore Art Association members will include paintings in all media, drawing and collage along with sculpture and woodworking. Styles range from realism, impressionism, cubism, expressionism to surrealism and abstractionism, all created with hands on brushes, pencils, pastels, knives and chisels and the inspiration and limitless imagination of the artist.
“It is always exciting to be able to exhibit the artwork of the many artists that reside in Northwest Indiana. There’s a wealth of talent and professionalism in the region. The SSAA affords a unique opportunity for artists in a variety of media to present their work in the ever-growing cultural scene in Michigan City,” said Anneke Dekker, SSAA Board president. “Our exhibitions have been recognized several times by the Chicago Tribune as their “Pick of the Week.”
Opening on September 5 in conjunction with Michigan City’s First Friday’s festivities, “By The Artist’s Hand” will showcase the artworks of SSAA members who are provided with an opportunity to exhibit and sell through the non-profit gallery. Members range from emerging to established artists participating in new exhibitions opening every month. The SSAA offers art classes, special art-related programming, solo shows and a gift shop featuring original arts and crafts.
A free public reception from 5-8pm affords an opportunity to meet and support the exhibiting members and enjoy refreshments. The Gallery, located at 724 Franklin Street in Michigan City’s Uptown Arts District, is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12 – 5pm (CST).
