A Northwest Indiana Life in the Spotlight: Tricia Catlin

tricia-catlinOriginally from Iowa, Tricia Catlin relocated to Northwest Indiana nearly twenty years ago when she accepted her first post-college job in Portage. With the help of her husband of eighteen years, Catlin takes care of her two children, while still making time to work for Brentwood at Hobart as well as all of her volunteer work.

Less than three years ago, the Executive Director of Brentwood at Hobart interviewed Catlin, offering her a job right on the spot. For the past two and a half years, Catlin has worked tirelessly at her job in marketing and sales at Brentwood. Brentwood is an Emeritus Senior Living community that first opened its doors in Hobart, Indiana in 2000, conveniently located less than five miles from the Westfield Mall area.

"At Brentwood, we make a simple promise to those living here, we promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful. We are like extended family members to the seniors entrusted to our care."

Along with all of her responsibilities at home and at work, Catlin had also taken on quite a few responsibilities in her local community, volunteering with many organizations from the Alzheimer's Association to Meals on Wheels. For the past seven years, Catlin has been extremely active with the Alzheimer's Association. Catlin first became involved with this organization because of her career.

"My career involves working with and helping those who have Alzheimer's and dementia, and it's good to know there's more that I can do to help." Catlin said.

Currently, Catlin helps with health fairs, Memory Walks, speaking engagements and various other tasks that occur through the year.

Since 1999, Catlin has also been a member of three different Kiwanis branches (Portage Kiwanis, Valparaiso Noon Kiwanis, and Hobart Kiwanis), which is a service organization focused on helping children in the community.

"I wanted to become more involved in the community in which I work, and this is a great way to help the community," she said.

Catlin helps with various fundraisers, has been on the board, and has chaired a holiday basket committee which gave food at Easter to needy families.

Closely related to her work with Kiwanis is her work with Meals on Wheels, which she has been volunteering with since 1999, starting in Porter County and moving on to Lake County.

"I love seniors and this gives me an opportunity to be involved and help those seniors in the town in which I work," she said.

Finally, Catlin makes time to work with the Hobart Chamber, to be even more involved in her community. Previously, she was pretty active in several Chambers in Porter County as well. Primarily, Catlin works with various committees, serving on the board a few times for things like the Ambassador Committee.

In any spare time she has, Tricia Catlin spends as much time with her husband and children as possible, camping and boating, remaining as devoted to her family as she is to her community.
