Damian Thomas is one of the newest service advisors at Levin Tire & Service Center. He grew up with a wrench in hand, a trait that made it easy for him to settle in at their Hobart location.
“I’ve been working on cars and motorcycles since I could walk,” he said. “I grew up in a shop because my dad’s a mechanic. This kind of work is something that’s extremely comfortable for me.”
His time in his father’s shop, car dealerships, a little over 12 years in the military, and some sales experience also helped Thomas stand out when he sent Levin his application back in May.
“I saw this position and it fit my background, so I applied right away,” he said. “I got a call the next day, did the interviews, and started a few weeks later. The onboarding process was excellent. They let me know their expectations, walked me through everything step by step, and then let me get to work. The rest is history.”
A service technician handles a wide range of responsibilities, but ultimately, their main job is to let the customer know their car is in safe hands so that they can leave happy and comfortable.
“My goal here is to make sure every customer is fully taken care of and satisfied,” Thomas said. “We do a courtesy inspection, and I’ll walk them out to their vehicle in the shop and physically point out everything we need to do with a technician to make sure the customer feels at ease.”
Talking with customers makes up the bulk of his day, but it’s also his favorite part of the job.
“I’m a people person, so I like being out in front of the customer and helping them work through their vehicle’s issues,” he said. “Having sales experience coming into this job was invaluable. You really need to know how to talk with a customer through their worries so that you can put their mind at ease.”
It helps that Thomas has immense confidence in the work that they do at Levin.
“The quality of work we do here far exceeds anything I’ve ever seen,” he said. “It’s one of the reasons I enjoy getting up in the morning and coming to work. I’ve been in dealerships, was a mechanic at multiple shops, and I can say that the satisfaction we get from our customers is just different. There’s a reason they’ve been in business for over a hundred years.”
Thomas currently lives in Valparaiso. Outside of his work at Levin, he works on his and other’s cars as a hobby. He also serves as a Pop Warner Football coach, and is very involved in the Valparaiso Wrestling Club.
