Meals on Wheels Volunteer Opportunities; June Trainings Set

Meals-on-WheelsInterested and prospective volunteers are invited to attend a Volunteer Orientation and Training Session at the Meals on Wheels Community Room, 8446 Virginia Street in Merrillville. A one-hour session will be held on Tuesday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. The training/orientation session is scheduled for one hour and applicants will have an opportunity to tour the facility and ask questions about Meals on Wheels and the services we provide. Experienced drivers are encouraged to join us to share information about their experiences as drivers in the community.

Each day, volunteers assist in the delivery of more than 1,500 meals throughout Lake County. According to Joan Vith, Volunteer Manager, volunteers are needed for all routes throughout Lake County. “However, at the moment, we are particularly in need in the Hobart area,” she said.

“In addition to individuals, many area organizations also participate in our volunteer program. We rely on the generosity of our civic volunteers to deliver in the communities they serve. The Rotary, Kiwanians, and Chambers of Commerce are valuable to ensuring ‘”No senior goes Hungry”. I am confident additional civic groups in Lake County and Hobart in particular will assist us as we reach out to them for assistance,” said Vith.

To register for training, or for more information on individual or corporate volunteering opportunities, contact Vith at (219)-756-3663, or email joan@mealsonwheelsnwindiana.org.
