SUBJECT: Managing Your Digital Photos class at Thomas Library
Bits and Bytes will continue at Westchester Public Library with “Managing Your Digital Photos” on Tuesday, April 8, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The class will take place in the Bertha Wood room on the second floor of Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton. Registration is required and is underway. Registration is available by calling or visiting the Automation/Serials Department or by visiting the Bits and Bytes page on the library’s website, www.wpl.lib.in.us/
Attendees will learn the basics of importing and exporting digital photographs, editing photos, and resizing photos. Participants need to be computer literate and proficient with the mouse.

SUBJECT: Tablets and Smartphones Class at the Library
Bits and Bytes continues at Westchester Public Library with Tablets and Smartphones on Thursday, April 17, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the Bertha Wood meeting room located on the second floor of Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton. Registration is necessary as space is limited, and will begin April 3. No computer experience is necessary. This class is for those who need help with a new smartphone or tablet, or are considering making a purchase. The different types of devices available including the Apple iPad, Microsoft Windows tablets, Android-based Google tablets and smartphones will be discussed.
Attendees will learn basic skills needed to connect to the Internet as well as how to take pictures and videos, use interactive maps, install applications and games, listen to music, and watch movies. There will also be a demonstration on how to download content from the library’s website including eBooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines for free.

SUBJECT: Knitting Together at the Museum
Area knitters are invited to gather in the Brown Mansion parlor for a cozy afternoon of knitting, conversation, and refreshments on Sunday, April 6, from 1-5 pm for Knitting Together. The program is free of charge and open to the public. Those who crochet or do needlework are also welcome to attend.
Attendees will enjoy viewing the temporary exhibit Needlework through the Ages, which will run through May 25. The Westchester Township History Museum, a cultural and educational service of Westchester Public Library, is housed in the Brown Mansion at 700 W. Porter Ave., Chesterton. The museum is open to the public Wednesday-Sunday from 1-5 pm. Groups may make reservations for tours by calling the museum at 983-9715.

SUBJECT: Porter County TRIAD at Thomas Library
Adults are invited to Westchester Public Library for an informational program co- sponsored by the library and Porter County TRIAD, introducing TRIAD and what it offers for older adults. No registration is necessary for the Thursday, April 3 program. Meet in the Bertha Wood meeting room at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, from 3-4 pm.
Among other things, come learn about Project Lifesaver, a program which quickly locates people who wander and brings peace of mind to families.
TRIAD is a program of the National Sheriff’s Association that teams local law enforcement agencies and senior organizations to work toward reducing criminal victimization and unwarranted fear of crime affecting older adults.
TRIAD members are committed to improving the quality of life for seniors and developing a safer environment for seniors and developing a safer environment in which to live.

SUBJECT: Adult Role-Playing Games Group
Adults are invited to join Jon Johnson at Westchester Public Library’s newest monthly group, Role-Playing Games, on Wednesday, April 2, from 6-8:30 pm in the Bertha Wood meeting room at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton. No registration is necessary. Role playing is a great opportunity to use the imagination to pretend to be anything,
whether a super hero, a knight, or even an elf. Players can explore different worlds, planets, or even historical periods. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life with this easy way of playing.
Create an adventure using guide books to help move the journey along; create your own character, choose skills, spell, weapons and gear, or become a Grand Master and run or make your own world. Have fun with this unique venue for teamwork and social interaction.

SUBJECT: Library Film Series to show 12 Years a Slave
Sunday Matinee will screen 12 Years a Slave at the Library Service Center, 100 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, at 1:30 pm on Sunday, April 6. Westchester Public Library films are free of charge and open to the public.
12 Years a Slave is an adaptation of the 1853 memoir of the same name by Solomon Northup. Northup was a free-born African-American, a skilled carpenter and a fiddle player. Offered a two-week job as a musician, Northup was, instead, drugged and kidnapped. He woke up in chains – to be sold into slavery.
After being enslaved for 12 years – experiencing both kindness and savagery, Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) returns home to his family, a free man.
Prisoners12 Years a Slave is rated R for violence/cruelty, some nudity and brief sexuality and has a running time of 134 minutes.
