On November 8th, Crossroads Family Dental proudly hosted its 6th Annual Free Dental Care Day for U.S. Veterans, a special event dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have served in the military. With the support of local dental professionals, Crossroads Family Dental provided essential dental care services to 29 veterans, totaling over $16,000 in free treatment.
Dr. Nick Berns, owner of Crossroads Family Dental and a U.S. Air Force Veteran, has made this annual event a cornerstone of his practice. Having served in the military himself, Dr. Berns understands firsthand the challenges veterans often face in accessing healthcare, especially dental care. This event is his way of giving back to fellow veterans who have sacrificed so much for the country.
"It’s an honor to serve my fellow veterans and give back to those who have given so much for all of us," said Dr. Berns. "I know firsthand how tough it can be for veterans to get the care they need, and dental health is often overlooked. It means a lot to me and to the entire team here at Crossroads Family Dental to be able to offer these services free of charge to those who have served."
The event was a team effort, with Dr. Berns and the dedicated staff at Crossroads Family Dental joined by other local dental professionals who volunteered their time and expertise. These dental teams provided a range of services, including cleanings, fillings, extractions, and other necessary treatments, ensuring that veterans left with healthier, brighter smiles.
One veteran who participated in the event, Keith Eaton, shared their gratitude: "This is the best thing they could do for us Veterans. A lot of us do not have dental care, so for them to come out and do this for us is a great experience."
In addition to Dr. Berns' leadership, several local dental offices came together to make the day a success. Participating dentists, hygienists, and support staff from Dr. Emily Hansen, Asst: Mikie Kacmar, Dr. Jonathan Burke, Asst: Jamie Ross, Dr. Nicholas Berns, Asst: Emily Van Deursen, Asst: Liz Hernandez, Asst: Janice McIntyre, Hygienist: Becky Hart, Hygienist: Lauren Urbahns, Hygienist: Selina Garcia, Nurse: Jan Hansen, Front desk: Justine Holtz, Front desk: Angie Silvestre, Asst: Julie Petersen, Asst: Val Meyer, Photographer: Ryan Flanery volunteered their time and skills to ensure that as many veterans as possible received the dental services they needed.
"We are grateful to all the volunteers who helped make this day possible," said Dr. Berns. "It’s truly a community effort, and it’s inspiring to see how many people are willing to come together to support our veterans."
