Strack & Van Til’s beer and wine department has an option for every occasion and every price point. Its selection ranges from local breweries to wine from the West Coast. It is a source of pride for the department that they have something for everyone. Another source of pride for Strack & Van Til is in partnering with the local breweries and nearby wineries.
“We like to partner as best as we can with local breweries,” said Mike Nisevich, director of Strack & Van Til’s beer and wine department. “We take pride in calling ourselves ‘Indiana made.’ We're committed to trying to work with those who are more around the area.”
The department features beers from local breweries such as Munster's Three Floyds, Crown Point’s Off Square Brewing, and Griffith’s New Oberpfalz Brewing. It also features wine from Oliver Winery out of Bloomington. There are a lot of options for those wanting to buy something local.
“People would definitely have to choose from Three Floyds because they have several different beers out there,” said Nisevich. “They have their Alpha King, and the Off Square out of Crown Point has an I65 lager. Those are some of the local items that do well.”
The soft red wine out of Oliver Winery is a top choice at Strack & Van Til. The wine is very popular in Indiana, especially with Strack & Van Til’s customers. There are also wines from wineries in Southwest Michigan that are closer to Northwest Indiana than Oliver Winery.
“Actually, some wineries in Michigan are closer than maybe some in Indiana whether that be St. Julian or Round Barn,” said Nisevich. “We have a lot of other offerings that are in another state that are still very close to our hearts in Northwest Indiana.”
Strack & Van Til’s wines come from a variety of other states as well, such as California, Oregon, Missouri, and New York. There is also a wide selection of wines from cabernet to pinot noir to rosé. No matter what kind of dinner party or occasion, Strack & Van Til has the wine selection.
“It depends on what your dinner party is,” said Nisevich. “There are wines that you serve with beef; typically if you're having deeper red meat, you're having cabernet or sauvignon. If you're having fish then you're having a white wine. We have, of course, a wide array of item costs out there. I tell most people that they can get a lot of $10 bottle wines at their value, but we also have some really other good ones starting at $29.99. It all depends on what you're having and what your budget is.”
Most importantly, Strack & Van Til has a wine or beer to fit everyone’s taste buds.
“We have something to fit everyone’s occasion and budget,” said Nisevich. “I'm proud of the selection that we have to offer our consumers, and we have something here that can satisfy everyone's palate. It also fits comfortably in their wallet.”
