Job Scope: Installation and repair of telephone and broadband services for the following: T1, data, DSL, Adsl, Vdsl, and voice lines using various test equipment, modems, and basic networking knowledge.
Job Description: The candidate must have a valid driver’s license that would qualify the current company’s carrier to insure the individual for traveling with the use of a company vehicle to residential and business customers for the installation and repair of the company’s services. The candidate is responsible for performing all duties associated with installing and repairing telephone and broadband services. The duties include, but not limited to, splicing copper and fiber cable, grounding and bonding cable, inside wiring and rewiring of residential and business locations including CAT 5 wire, working aloft on ladders and in bucket trucks, and the ability to work in confined spaces, such as closets and crawl spaces. The position will require the use of test meters and interpretation of results as well as the technique of splicing copper and fiber cable. Basic knowledge of electrical theory for understanding and analyzing causes and effects of problems is required in order to trouble shoot and repair the service problem. Broadband services require the use of computers, with basic knowledge of modems, routers, home networking and being familiar with Windows Operating System and its components. The candidate will be working with various types of modems and routers and is required to be familiar with its configurations. When inside the customer’s premises, the individual will be required to respect the customer’s home and business environment, and provide courteous and professional service. The technician is encouraged to recommend Nitco products while at the customer’s premise that may benefit the customers’ needs, such as increasing upload and download speeds and current promotions. Due to the rapid change in technology other duties may be assigned as needed to keep current with the industry.
Qualifications and Skills: Experience preferred, but may be learned in the following: Working with test meters – ohm meter, JDSU, 965, and fault locater Working with light spans and cross-connect boxes Grounding and bonding of cables as well as grounding protectors Splicing copper and fiber cable Toning of wires and cables Reading facility maps Wiring and rewiring residential and business locations Operating a bucket truck
Knowledge is required in the following: Computers, laptops, modems and routers Configuration of different brands of modems and routers Windows Operating System and its components DSL, ADSL, VDSL Electrical theory of shorts, grounds, and opens Home networking
Abilities: Ability to lift 50 lbs. above head Ability to perform duties aloft on a ladder, pole or in a bucket from a bucket truck Ability to work in extreme weather conditions Ability to work in confined spaces
