Horizon Bank Donates to Michigan City’s 91st Annual Golf Tournament—Registration Now Open

Michigan City’s 91st annual golf tournament is just a couple weeks away, on July 24, 25, 31 and August 1, 2021. The event will be hosted at the Michigan City Municipal South Golf Course, a staple among the city’s golfers. Thanks to the sponsorship from Horizon Bank, this year’s tournament is looking to be one of the best tournaments yet.

The sign-up fee will be $60, with the city also reducing the $42 green fee to under $25 thanks to the sponsorship of Horizon Bank. The tournament is open to all golfers. For nonmembers participating in the tournament, each of the four rounds will cost just $25, including a cart.

“That’s cheaper than you can find anywhere else for weekend play,” Marty Nieman, tournament organizer said. “It’s a beautifully kept public golf course and well worth the fees. You’ll also be getting a chance to win some good monetary prizes, or a free car with a hole-in-one.”

The opening event will be on July 23. The events, sponsored by KnuckleHeads Sports Bar & Grill, include a long drive/accuracy challenge. Participants can take part in a long-drive contest with brackets for different age groups, and an accuracy contest with more chances to win prizes. The festivities begin at 5 p.m.

The tournament highlights include an optional skins game and a hole-in-one car giveaway on hole #6, among other contests and prizes.

“We would love for golfers from all around Northwest Indiana to come out and play. I’m not a part of the city government and I don’t work for the golf course. I’m only a member that would like to see the tournament thrive again,” Nieman said.

To register for the tournament, visit the Michigan City Golf Course clubhouse at 4000 E Michigan Blvd, Michigan City, IN. Registration is open now. The first round will start the morning of July 24.
