Fighting for the future: Munster Environmental Club meets with State Legislators

On their early morning bus ride to the Indianapolis Statehouse on Feb. 13, Lily Hestjean, Munster senior and environmental club (EC) leader, and Calvin McNulty, junior and EC leader, discuss and write down questions for their scheduled meeting with Representative Sue Errington about their support for Community Solar, a voluntary subscription for families and business to receive credit on their utility bill for a share of the power the community solar panels produce, as introduced in House Bill 1193. Alongside Calvin and Lily, ten other EC members joined on the trip for the Statehouse’s sixth annual Renewable Energy Day event.

The event invited those passionate and interested in renewable energy to advocate for their energy rights. More than 200 people attended the event in which they could visit renewable energy sponsors, listen to advocating speakers, and, in EC’s case, talk directly to legislators.
