Library Film Series to show Divergent
Come to Westchester Public Library to enjoy Divergent on Saturday, August 9, at 5 p.m. Meet at the Library Service Center, 100 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton. No registration is necessary; attendance is free of charge.
In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she’s Divergent and won’t fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it’s too late.
Enjoy munching popcorn while watching the movie.
Divergent, rated PG-13, has a running time of 140 minutes.

Gabe’s World for Adults at Thomas Library
Adults are invited to enjoy the opportunity to once again enter Gabe’s World of unusual creature crafts at Westchester Public Library. Gabe’s World for Adults will take place in the Bertha Wood meeting room on the second floor of Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton on Monday, August 18, from 6-7:30 pm and on Thursday, August 21, from 6-8 pm. Registration is necessary as space is limited and will begin 14 days before each program.
Gabe Underwood is back with more crafts for adults. Join him and let your creative juices flow.
On Monday, August 18, learn how to make polymer clay beads with a skull pattern. Create a bead and wire steampunk octopus on Thursday, August 21. Materials will be provided by the library.

Poetry Appreciation Group at Thomas Library
If you enjoy reading poetry, or if you enjoy writing poetry or have always wanted to write poetry, the Poetry Appreciation Group is for you! The group will meet on Monday, August 11, in the Bertha Wood meeting room at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, from 6-8 pm. Registration is not necessary; attendance is free.
Share and discuss the craft of poetry at the Poetry Appreciation Group. The group serves as a forum for learning and discussion of the various forms and techniques of writing poems. Attendees will read and listen to poetry being read aloud by individuals among the group, including published authors’ work and/or original works done by local aspiring amateur poets who may want an audience or a constructive critique.
Those who enjoy reading, writing, or listening to poetry are encouraged to attend. The Poetry Appreciation Group meets on the second Monday of each month.

Knitting Together at the Museum
Area knitters are invited to gather in the Brown Mansion parlor for a cozy afternoon of knitting, conversation, and refreshments on Sunday, August 3, from 1-5 pm for Knitting Together. The program is free of charge and open to the public. Those who crochet or do needlework are also welcome to attend.
The Westchester Township History Museum, a cultural and educational service of Westchester Public Library, is housed in the Brown Mansion at 700 W. Porter Ave., Chesterton. The museum is open to the public Wednesday-Sunday from 1-5 pm. Groups may make reservations for tours by calling the museum at 983-9715.

Summer Concert and Family Film Series Finale with South Shore Band and The Lego Movie
Westchester Public Library’s free concert and family film series will conclude Friday, August 8, at the bandstand in Thomas Park with members of the South Shore Brass Band. The concert will be followed by the film The Lego Movie at dusk, about 8 p.m. Those who attend both the concert and film are invited to bring lawn chairs and picnics to the bandstand in Thomas Park at the corner of Broadway and Calumet and enjoy the fun. To complete the enjoyment of the evening, members of the Chesterton-Porter Rotary will sell popcorn and soda. In the case of rain, both events will be offered in the Library Service Center on the corner of Indiana Avenue and Calumet.
The South Shore Brass Band is a professional musical organization based in Northwest Indiana. The ensemble will perform patriotic music and some Dixieland favorites.
Band members have performed with the Northwest Indiana Symphony, North Coast Big Band, Windiana Concert Band, and many others.
The Lego Movie tells the story of Emmet, a completely ordinary Lego construction worker who is identified as the “most extraordinary person.” He is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tryant from gluing the Lego universe into eternal stasis.
The Lego Movie is rated PG and has a running time of 100 minutes.

Local Life in the New Century: 1900-1910
The public is invited to join Eva Hopkins and Nancy Hokanson at the Westchester Township History Museum, 700 W. Porter Avenue, Chesterton, for Local Life in the New Century: 1900-1910. The program will take place on Sunday, August 10 at 2 pm. No registration is necessary.
Eva and Nancy will highlight what it was like to live in this area during the first decade of the 20th century. With the help of some rare photographs from the period, attendees will learn about the fashions, the community, and more.
Light refreshments will be served.
