Kim Gavelek Named Girls’ Head Soccer Coach at Lowell High School

The Lowell High School Athletic Department has announced that Kim Gavelek will join the high school as the head coach of the girls’ varsity soccer program. The Lowell native has a wealth of soccer experience, including coaching at the high school level, Parks Department and travel teams. Gavelek has over a decade of experience managing four Premier Soccer teams, where she worked hand-in-hand with the coaching staff to build her coaching skills.
Gavelek served for seven years as a girls’ soccer coach at Lowell High School. She began her coaching career as a volunteer coach for three years, and was then named head coach for the next four years. Gavelek’s “first’s” at Lowell High School were to defeat Munster, in a shoot-out, and tie Crown Point. In 2008, Gavelek lead her team to 3rd place in the NCC Conference with a conference record of 3-1, and a season record of 12-3-2. It is also noteworthy, that no team scored more than one goal on their team the entire regular season. This same team boasted 6 out of 15 players as NCC academic recipients.
Coach Gavelek has a true love for the game of soccer. She continues to play on women’s soccer teams year-round.
“I’m excited to be back coaching at Lowell High School. Since I left the program, I have done extensive research and study on new and innovative ways to coach soccer. I’m a strong believer in motivational tools, and use them regularly to build my teams.”
