Deadline Extended to July 10 for Gary Public Art Challenge!

Deadline-Extended-to-July-10-for-Gary-Public-Art-Challenge-2017We aim to bring art outside of the traditional context of museums and galleries. Public art benefits the community and its visitors by increasing access to art and providing artists with opportunities to expand their practice and market.

Eight artists will be selected to design and execute a piece of public art for the City of Gary in the following categories:

Award amounts range from $25,000 to $3,000.

Deadline to submit qualification materials is July 10, 2017 by 5:00 p.m. Legacy Foundation will notify artists if they are selected to submit a formal proposal by July 14.

Eligible applicants will be at least 18 years old. Preference will be given to those with a demonstrated connection to the City of Gary (live, work, study, family, childhood, etc.).

Legacy Foundation and the City of Gary Redevelopment Commission launched the 2017 Downtown Gary Public Art Competition with support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The purpose of the Gary Public Art Competition is to give local artists an opportunity to undertake the challenge of creating a work of art in a public space within Gary, Indiana.
