Small size, large impact: NW Indiana ER & Hospital is committed to offering quality concierge medical care to Northwest Indiana

NW Indiana ER & Hospital opened just three short years ago with a mission to provide the Northwest Indiana community with excellent patient care. Since then, the hospital’s small but mighty staff has been committed to offering all-inclusive concierge-level care to every person who walks through the front door and is ready to attend to almost any medical need at a moment’s notice.

“We treat anybody and pretty much all complaints such as a laceration, a cut, a broken ankle, a broken finger, chronic or acute back pain, shoulder pain, any type of orthopedic injury to headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, shortness of breath, asthma - we take care of anything that anybody would go to the emergency room (ER) for,” Medical Doctor and NW Indiana ER & Hospital CEO Scott Samlin said.

In addition to 24/7 ER care, NW Indiana ER & Hospital also offers an array of other healthcare services. From diagnostic imaging to pediatric care, laboratory and outpatient services, COVID-19 evaluations, and much more, the team is here to help with every step along the way. The hospital considers every patient as one of its own and will do all it can to make sure each one is treated for what’s needed starting from the second patients walk through the doors to even long after the final visit has concluded.

“At the same time, if they need something from a specialist, we have a great team and great resources,” Samlin said. “We have a great consultant family who will be able to attend to our patients whether it's ear, nose, and throat (ENT), orthopedics, urology - we take the extra time to call those consultants and make sure that they have a follow up so when a patient leaves, they have a clear concise plan if they need additional care.”

Visiting a medical center typically means a problem has arisen that needs to be addressed immediately. With this in mind, NW Indiana ER & Hospital works hard to make sure each patient is seen in a timely manner and is given immediate attention no matter the reason behind the visit.

“We have limited wait times, which means that while some facilities have wait times of two to three hours to see a physician, our average wait time is 20 minutes. At that time, a nurse will assess them and will order blood work, X-rays, CAT scans, MRIs – whatever they need – in a timely fashion,” Samlin said.

The concierge services and patient-centered care have easily made NW Indiana ER & Hospital a favorite in the community, so much so that the hospital has been voted as one of the best in the area three years running - once for each year it’s been open. Having that large amount of community support means the world to Samlin and the NW Indiana ER & Hospital team, and they are beyond excited many choose to visit NW Indiana ER & Hospital whenever a healthcare need arises.

“It feels amazing,” Samilin said. “When we started this hospital, we wanted to take health care back. We wanted to be an advocate for patients, and we wanted to serve the community and their needs in a concierge-level experience. People have many choices to go to, but I think what differentiates us is that we provide concierge-level care. We're able to sit down with the patient, talk to them, and connect them to the right consultants in a clean, hospitable environment, where our entire team is focused on one thing, and that is the patient.”

None of this would be possible, however, without the strong force that is the NW Indiana ER & Hospital team. The staff has grown close over the years as they work hard each and every day to make sure every patient is treated with the utmost care. Since the team works so intricately, stepping into the hospital no longer feels like just another day of coming to work, and they can’t imagine it being any other way.

“Over the three years we developed a team – and by that I mean everybody works at this facility. We all wear many different hats because we are small, and I know it's been used a lot, but we are a family. We know about each other's spouses and about their children's interests. It really is like going to work with your family. I'm proud that we all have the common goal or common mission to provide the people of the Region with an extraordinary patient experience and at the same time with extraordinary medicine,” Samlin said.

While NW Indiana ER & Hospital has seen great success in the time it’s been open, the hospital is still rather new to the Northwest Indiana healthcare scene. By focusing on its pillar strengths of patient care and concierge services, Samlin is excited to continue growing the hospital’s legacy over time, and, ultimately, let many others see just how great it can be to be a part of the NW Indiana ER & Hospital family.

“We're still a new hospital having been here only three years,” Samlin said. “Our Marketing Director Jessica Hubbard has been instrumental in growing our name and growing our brand. We also want people in the Region to know that a lot of us live here in the Region. We treat patients like we would treat our own. I want them to feel like they aren't just a name or a patient - they’re a part of our family.”
