Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute hosts open house to celebrate two-year anniversary of 40,000-square-foot Crown Point facility

After two years of working in a brand new building, the team at Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute (LBJI) was thrilled to invite guests into its state-of-the-art offices during an open house on June 20, 2023.

LBJI has had a presence in Crown Point for nearly a decade, but its offices were small and not easily accessible to the public. The group made a decision to commit to a larger, more accessible space in 2020, and the project was completed in mid-2021.

Providers have been successfully operating out of the new 40,000-square-foot facility for two years, and the group has been able to expand into a network of 27 specialists to provide a broader range of advanced services to the Region.

Since its grand opening, LBJI has been able to treat patients on varying levels and offer the best care possible without having to leave the building. The new facility features in-house services like MRI and X-ray machines, a physical therapy center, urgent care, and operating rooms.

The group’s decision to build from scratch allowed the team to take into account the needs of its patients. The building is highly-accessible to people with mobility issues and features large doors, hallways, and accessible seating located throughout the facility.

“As we grew and added providers, we saw a benefit in having our own space that was in a better location and easier to access. We designed this building from the ground up specifically for orthopedic care,” said Aaron Anderson, M.D., LJBI President and Fellowship-Trained Hand and Upper Extremity Surgeon.

LBJI’s decision to plant deeper roots in Crown Point was no coincidence. The group was well aware of the impressive community that resides in Crown Point and made a point to bring expert care and convenience to residents of Crown Point and neighboring communities.

“This building is a commitment from our group to the city. It’s our intent to be an integral part of the Crown Point community and the Lake County area. It is our commitment to bring world-class orthopedic care, as well as a world-class building, to Crown Point,” Dwight Tyndall, M.D., said.

As a testament to LBJI’s commitment to local services, every vendor at the open house was a local small business. Vendors included Off-Square Brewing, Han’s Baked Delights, Passion’s Fruitopia, Party Lane, and members of Crown Point High School’s band.

The City of Crown Point has been positively impacted by LBJI for years, and it continues to support the group as it grows into a much larger pillar of the community.

“I always say that Crown Point’s business community is a partnership between that business, the city, and our residents. We are very fortunate and blessed that a building like this is in the City of Crown Point,” said Crown Point Mayor Pete Land.

Access to experts within a few miles of a patient’s home can make a huge difference in the care a patient receives, and at LBJI, Region residents have the convenience of nearby facilities and the care of knowledgeable doctors wrapped into one network of providers.

LBJI patient Kristine White has been a patient of Hassan Usmani, D.P.M. since she suffered from an injury in 2021. She was given the option to see a provider in a few months or see a different provider in a week. She feels the decision to book an appointment with Usmani was one of the best decisions she could have made.

“Dr. Usmani has been with me for three surgeries, three recoveries, and he’s stuck by me through it all. I couldn’t be more happy with the care I receive. They will go out of their way to make sure that you are okay after surgery,” White said.

Specialists at LBJI are also extremely appreciative of the warm reception they have received from the patients they have served across the Region throughout their time with the group.

“It’s a great community to serve. I really appreciate the reception here and how the hospitals and the people of Crown Point have really accepted us and allowed us to grow in this environment,” Anderson said.

The roughly 15 months of construction were well worth the wait for the providers and residents of the Region, and LBJI is excited to continue to provide world-class care in a building designed for growth and development for years to come.

“Seeing it come to fruition and being able to see the number of patients we can help every day is really gratifying,” LBJI CEO Dale Ingram said.
