The Lake Central Indians won their softball season opener at home on Tuesday evening, defeating the visiting Munster Mustangs 5-0. Lake Central rode a dominant pitching performance by sophomore Maddie Such to the win – with such posting 14 strike outs across 7 innings while allowing just three hits. Junior infielder Tegan Tripp provided two of the Indians’ runs by way of the long ball, hitting a 2-run home run in the first inning. Senior Taylor Schafer also knocked in a pair with a first inning single, while junior MaKayla Van Vossen added some insurance with an RBI knock in the second.
Lake Central will be back in action on Thursday when they host Penn, while the Mustangs will travel to New Lenox on Friday to face Lincoln-Way Central.
