Published: October 8, 2022The Crown Point Bulldogs battled the Chesterton Trojans for the girl’s soccer sectional title. Hosted by Portage High School, the match was scoreless at the half. Then in the second half, with 19 minutes left in the match, Chesterton struck first.
Although they were down 1-0, Crown Point fought back. Four minutes later, #24 sophomore forward Izzy Sainato tied the match up. Then with 2 minutes left, Sophomore #6 Ava Haluska stepped up for the Bulldogs and scored the go-ahead goal.
After the match, Haluska tried to put into words how scoring a game-winning sectional goal felt.
“It’s amazing,” said Haluska. “After I scored it, I just saw everyone, and their faces just lit up! So it’s very exciting.”
Crown Point head coach David Bock was thrilled with the energy his team played with in the second half.
“To get two goals back in the second half was incredible,” said Bock. “Loved the energy defensively, loved the response to going down a goal, they just didn’t blink”
Bock went on to explain what the team take away from this victory as they head to regionals.
“Everything preparation-wise from today, and this week in general,” said Bock. “The team has really come together and worked really hard and put in extra time. I think if we continue to prepare like we have it’s going to give us a great chance to succeed.”
