Gary SouthShore Railcats and McAfee Animal Hospital host annual Bark in the Park

Have you ever started to leave your home and your furry canine friend gives you those sad eyes, begging you not to leave them? Well, today you didn’t have to as you went to leave for the Gary SouthShore Railcats game! Partnering with McAfee Animal Hospital, the ballpark hosted their annual Bark in the Park, where families were encouraged to bring their fur-babies.

Community events like Bark in the Park are important to the Gary SouthShore Railcats. Their focus is on families and creating events like these are a way they can encourage families to get out of the house and spend a fun day together.

“This is a chance for people to have fantastic family fun and get out and be together. Any way we can be apart of families having fun, we take that chance,“ said David Kerr, Director of Marketing and Promotions for the Gary SouthShore Railcats.

For McAfee Animal Hospital, sponsoring this type of event is a great way to be a part of the community. It’s also a great time for the staff to relax and bring their families, pets included, out for some quality time.

“It’s a great day. We get to spend time outside of the clinic and have dogs out at the ballpark. What a fun thing to do! We also get to see the staff enjoy their time together which is awesome,” said Jennette Rudzinski, Manager at McAfee Animal Hospital. “At McAfee’s, we feel that part of our community is caring and being involved with it. This is an honor for us, and it’s something different to be out here with everybody else as well.”

Many dogs and their owners were out at the ballpark today, watching the Railcats play the Sioux Falls Canaries. Bedecked in their new McAfee provided bandanas, the dogs were excited for all the extra lovin’ they would receive at the park. Their owners were just grateful to have them with them.

“They’re like our family, so we never want to leave them at home. I hope I get to pet a lot of dogs today!” said Leslie Martinez.

It wasn’t just fun just for the dogs, though! There were lots of activities for children to enjoy as well. The ballpark is family-friendly and always has fun activities to do for children such as bounce houses and picnic areas. Today, they were able run the outfield, giving Rusty the Railcat a high-five as they finished. And, of course, there were so many dogs to pet!

“We come to the games pretty regularly. I love it. It’s a good place for the kids, and it’s a fun place to be. It’s amazing the amount of dogs and how calm they are,” said Josephine Collins, event attendee.

Bark in the Park was a home run event for all. If you’re looking for a fun place to take your family this summer, bring them to a Gary SouthShore Railcats game!
