Event Information
At 4 p.m. on Dec. 5, Maryann Simmons of Wildwood Press will discuss her studio and her relationship with Valerie Hammond, followed by a reception.
Valerie Hammond, known for her innovative and dynamic approach to art, blends mediums to
evoke the fragile interplay between memory, materiality and spirituality. Hammond’s work, which often involves tracing hands and integrating botanical elements encased in wax, embodies the physicality and ephemerality of human experience.
Her artistic practice reveals a delicate balance between presence and absence, serving as a testament to the passage of time and the quiet dissolution of memory.
Hammond’s artwork has been featured in prominent public and private collections, including the Walker Art Center, the Library of Congress, The Fine Arts Museum of Houston and the Getty Museum.
She has received numerous awards and fellowships and has exhibited her works in both solo and group shows nationally and internationally. Her distinctive use of printmaking, wax and mixed media has made her a significant figure in contemporary art.
