Tacos & Beer, They Want You There

Event Information

12:16am - 12:16am

Portage | Presented by Great Lakes Peterbilt of the Larson Group, Portage will host its 6th Annual Portage Brewfest & Taco Test. Proceeds aid two of the city’s largest non-profits, the Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce and the Portage Township YMCA.  Last year’s addition of the Taco Test was a huge success, so much so, that reigning Taco Test Champion, Mexico Lindo Bar & Grill will return to defend its title.  The event is welcoming a few new taco vendors this year as well, so may the best taco win!

Last year, over 450 people attended the event, enjoying not only the brew and taco tastings, but the smooth sounds of John “DonDo” and Chad Clifford. Also returning in 2019 is the main entertainment, Too White Crew who is based out of Chicago and has a terrific following there. “What they added to the event last year was remarkable. It was probably my favorite part of the evening because I was able to watch the happiness from our attendees as they danced to their favorite jam,” said Shannon Burhans, President & CEO of the Portage Township YMCA. Too White Crew is a tasteful tribute to the fun hip hop and party anthems of the 80’s, 90’s, and early 00’s, featuring an all-live six-piece band, MC’s, and “Fly Girl” dancers.

A common misconception is that the Brewfest is just for beer lovers, but that is not the case. Portage Brewfest & Taco Test will also be serving up seltzers, hard ciders, wine and other non-alcoholic beverages. While the All Access Pass is the best bang for your buck, you can also purchase Brewfest Only, Taco Test Only or General Admission tickets through www.eventbrite.com. This event is for Adults 21+ only and takes place at Founders’ Square Park, 6300 Founders Square, Portage, IN 46368 on Saturday September 21. Gates open at 3:30pm and the Brewfest & Taco Test begin at 4:00 P.M. with Too White Crew taking the stage at 7:00 P.M. Also new this year, is a back-up location in case of inclement weather.  This will be located at the Lakefront Open Air Pavilion located on Riverwalk Drive in Portage, IN.

Nancy Simpson, Executive Director of the Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce states, “This event has not only been a great way to highlight Portage’s Founders’ Square area, but it provides an opportunity for area vendors to gain some exposure.  Friends, brews, tacos and tunes is the perfect way to spend a September day.”
