The Center for Global Studies will host a day-long conference on immigration Sept. 28 on PNW's main Hammond campus, 2200 169th St., Hammond, IN.
The conference starts at 11 a.m. and will take place in the Student Union & Library Building. Registration is free and can be completed at https://cgsconference.ticketleap.com/immigration/. The conference includes a panel at 11 a.m. titled "Immigration Rights and Obstacles." Panelists include Chiara Galli, assistant professor in the department of Comparative Human Development and the College at the University of Chicago; Michael Jimenez, attorney at Manuel Cardenas & Associates; and Claudia Lucero, director of the Catholic Religious Leadership Network on Latin America.
Keynote speakers will present at 2 p.m. The distinguished speakers include Rahul Oka, research associate professor in the Keough School of Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame, and Margaret Power, professor emeritus of History at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
A panel at 3:30 p.m. titled "Ways and Means for Immigration Reform" will include Juan M. Andrade, of Comprehensive Immigration Reform Now; Jim Mulholland, executive director of CoCoDa, an Indianapolis immigrant rights group; and Alfredo Estrada, partner at Burke Costanza & Carberry LLP.
Each session includes time for questions and discussion. Refreshments will be provided. A community and student information tabling session will allow attendees opportunities to speak with organizations working on immigration.
Musical entertainment features Carolyn and Pablo Rodea and St. Mary's Mariachi Youth Band.
PNW's Theater Troupe will perform "Ceviche in Pittsburgh" at 7 p.m. The play is written by Jose Castro-Urioste, professor of Spanish at PNW.
