Meals on Wheels Volunteer Orientation

Do you want to experience an amazing good feeling about helping others? Did you know we make and deliver meals to more than 1300 clients in our communities in NW Indiana? Maybe make someone else’s day brighter by delivering meals and a smile to those who need to know you care.

Volunteering for Meals on Wheels to deliver meals to our clients, can be a most rewarding adventure. You never know when a new client has registered and changes the route you deliver. You get to see places and/or neighborhoods you may have not noticed before. Finding new locations can be fun, it can also be frustrating when the fence you are looking for has been taken down or the green door has been painted yellow since the last time you were there! If you have an hour and a half available during the middle of the day you can deliver meals to our clients who reside in the community nearest to you. Your knock on the door and the smile on your face can give you the power to change someone else’s day. It could change yours too. Published reports document that volunteers have better mental alertness after retirement and keep their blood pressures lower by staying busy after leaving their work lives behind.

If you would like to help your neighbors in need, why not help us deliver meals? We are having training/orientation on Tuesday, December 10, at 10:00 am and again on Thursday, December 19, at 1:00 pm in our offices at 8446 Virginia Street, Merrillville. Training lasts a little more than an hour and ends with a tour of our building.

According to Joan, “From recent retirees to actively employed individuals aged 18 to 80+, why not join the delivery team at Meals on Wheels? Please consider joining Meals on Wheels and support our route deliveries, office work and kitchen assistance. “
