Event Information
Indiana University Northwest is offering a free workshop for parents titled “Your Child’s Journey to College.” The workshop takes place on Feb. 22 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Bergland Auditorium. Designed for Latinx parents and families, the workshop will cover how to apply for college, secure scholarships and financial aid, and support your child throughout this process. Participants can choose to attend either an English or Spanish-language workshop.
“We understand that selecting a college is one of the most important decisions a person can make,” said Dorothy Frink, Associate Vice Chancellor or Enrollment Management. “Many of our students, including our Latinx students, are the first person in their family to attend college. We are hosting this workshop to help parents of ‘first generation students’ understand the importance of a college degree and the admissions process.”
Frink added that the number of Latinx students at IU Northwest is rising, and to help support the needs of these students and their families, the Admissions team has added Spanish speaking counselors to its team and has also begun to create more resources in both English and Spanish.
