Event Information

Feb 27
2025
4:30pm - 6:00pm

Learn about new ways to treat serious heart conditions from some of the most skilled specialists in Northwest Indiana.

Leading cardiologists affiliated with Powers Health will present at the upcoming Innovative Cardiovascular Procedures: A Hearts of Hope Event. The talks will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. Feb. 27 at St. Mary Medical Center, 1500 S. Lake Park Ave., Hobart.

“February is American Heart Month, which gives us an opportunity to draw attention to the innovative procedures we offer at Powers Health,” said Samer Abbas, MD, co-medical director of the Cardiovascular Service Line for Powers Health and medical director of the Structural Heart and Valve Clinic of Powers Health. “By sharing this information with the community, we want to give them peace of mind. We treat complex heart conditions every day, right here in Northwest Indiana.”

Slated to join Abbas as presenters are Interventional Cardiologist Anas Safadi, MD, and Electrophysiologist Samer Ajam, MD. Topics will include the advanced techniques and methods for treating atrial fibrillation (AFib), carotid artery disease and structural heart disease and heart valve disorders.

Among the newest procedures offered through Powers Health is transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR). In fall 2024, 80-year-old Crown Point resident Gladys Schliemann became the first patient in Indiana to undergo TTVR, which is a less invasive approach to treating severe tricuspid regurgitation. The condition occurs when the tricuspid valve on the right side of the heart does not close properly and blood flows backward from the ventricle to the atrium.

This free event is part of Hearts of Hope, a campaign that has funded cardiovascular research and clinical trials at Powers Health for the past 20 years. To register, call 219-836-3477.
