Families Invited to Safety Education Day at Indiana Welcome Center

lakemichiganAs a kick-off to National Tourism Week, the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority will be hosting Family Safety Education Day at the Indiana Welcome Center on Saturday, May 3.

The Hammond Police and Fire Departments will be on hand from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to teach children about safety. Events will include children’s fingerprinting, a motorcycle display and K-9 demonstrations.

In addition to Family Safety Education Day, National Tourism Week will include Explore the South Shore at the Indiana Welcome Center on Saturday, May 10. From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. families can discover attractions, festivals and things to do along the South Shore.

During Explore the South Shore, families can visit numerous interactive booths with activities including the Challenger Learning Center’s StarLab, the RailCats inflatable ball toss, bean bags, musical chairs and more. Additional activities include a performance by Indiana Ballet Theatre, a magic show, a hula hoop contest and $1 train rides.
