Frank Ennis, a Lake Station real estate broker, had the winning ticket for the $10,000 gold bar raffle held in conjunction with United Way of LaPorte County’s annual gala celebration, “New York, New York,” at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City on Nov. 15.
Ennis has chosen to pay it forward by donating a portion of the windfall to benefit his Northwest Indiana community. His real estate firm, Ennis Moore & Associates, Inc., has a 20-year history of donating to local food banks, sponsoring youth sports teams and contributing to annual events including “Toys for Tots” and “Shop With a Cop.”
Ennis purchased three raffle tickets at the Blue Chip Casino. .
“I was looking at it as a donation to United Way,” he said. “I was having fun with a bunch of friends. We were there for the Legends concert and it was a really nice evening.”
When he got the phone call from United Way letting him know that he had won, Ennis said he didn’t believe it.
“I was so surprised. I thought it was one of my friends playing a joke on me.”
