Mrs. Claus is coming to Hageman Library, Westchester Public Library’s Porter branch, for her annual visit. Visit with her at the library, located at 100 Francis St., Porter. This year she will be there at 2 pm on Saturday, December 13.

Attendees are invited to listen to Mrs. Claus read a story or two and sing some songs with her. She will also be ready to answer questions children might have about life at the North Pole, Santa, and even Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Mrs. Claus is looking forward to visiting with the children as they sit on her lap and share their wishes with her. Parents are welcome to bring cameras to take photographs.

Refreshments will be served.

Saturday Movie at Hageman: Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever
Westchester Public Library’s monthly film series, Saturday Movies at Hageman, will continue on Saturday, December 20 with Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever. Come to Hageman Library, 100 Francis Street, Porter, at 2 pm. Library films are free of charge and open to the public.

Grumpy Cat is a lonely cat living in a mall pet shop. Because she never gets chosen by customers, she develops a sour outlook on life…until one day during the holidays a very special 12-year-old named Chrystal enters the pet store and falls in love with her after realizing she is the only person who can hear this unique cat speak. As the two develop a close friendship during the holiday rush, Grumpy reluctantly thwarts the kidnapping of an exotic dog she dislikes. She even rescues Chrystal after the mall closes on Christmas Eve.

Through her adventures, will Grumpy learn the true meaning of Christmas, or will it be, in her words, “Worst.Christmas.Ever”?

Mother Daughter Holiday Tea at Hageman Library
Westchester Public Library is hosting a mother-daughter tea to celebrate the season at its Porter branch on Monday, December 29 at 2 pm. Girls in kindergarten through grade 3 and their moms or grandmoms are invited to register for the Mother-Daughter Holiday Tea at Hageman Library, 100 Francis Street, Porter.

Free Blood Pressure Screening at Thomas Library
NorthShore Health Center will provide blood pressure screening free to walk-in patrons at Westchester Public Library on Wednesday, December 17. Patrons may come to the Bertha Wood meeting room on the second floor of Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, between the hours of 10 am - 1 pm. Blood pressure screenings will be offered each month on the third Wednesday.

Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood in the circulatory system, often measured for diagnosis since it is closely related to the force and rate of the heartbeat and diameter and elasticity of the arterial walls.

History Discussion Group at Thomas Library
History buffs and those who are simply interested in learning more about history are invited to Westchester Public Library’s History Discussion Group on Saturday, December 13, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. The group will meet in the Bertha Wood meeting room at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton.

What contributions have Latin Americans made to the United States? The discussion will concentrate on individuals and groups rather than an overarching cultural influence.

The group is open to anyone interested in history and conversations about history. Feel free to participate or sit back and listen.
