Westchester Public Library Briefs: August 20, 2014

If you love to discuss current events, Westchester Public Library’s monthly news discussion program is for you. Interested adults are invited to News at Noon at Hageman Library, 100 Francis Street, Porter, on Thursday, August 28, from noon-1 p.m. Registration is not necessary. Attendance at the program is free of charge.

Porter Police Chief James Spanier will be a special guest at News at Noon this month. If you have questions for the chief, or just some concerns you’d like to see addressed, come on in and talk to him.

Whether you get your news from the newspaper, magazines, or the Internet, join the discussion on issues and events happening in the world today and sample other viewpoints. Attendees are encouraged to bring a news clipping or an idea of something they would like to discuss.

Library to Close for Labor Day
Both branches of Westchester Public Library, the Library Service Center, and the Westchester Township History Museum will be closed Monday, September 1, for Labor Day. The office of the Westchester Township Trustee will also be closed on September 1. Library buildings will reopen Tuesday, September 2, and will resume regular hours.

Thomas Library, located at 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, is open Monday-Friday from 9 am – 9 pm, Saturday from 9 am-5 pm and Sunday from 1-5 pm. Hageman Library, located at 100 Francis Street, Porter, is open Monday-Friday from 9 am-5 pm, Saturday from 1-5 pm and is closed on Sunday. The Library Service Center, 100 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton, is open as needed for meetings. The Westchester Township History Museum, housed in the Brown Mansion at 700 W. Porter Avenue, Chesterton, is open Wednesday-Sunday 1-5 pm or by appointment.

Lego Club at Thomas Library
Westchester Public Library’s monthly Lego Club will meet Friday, September 12, at 6:30 pm. Clubbers meet in the Children’s Department at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton. Attendance is free of charge but registration is necessary. Children ages six years and up are welcome to sign up in the Children’s Department.

Children will get a bucket of Legos and may build something from their own imaginations.
