General Gardening at WPL

General Gardening: Azaleas to Zucchini will continue on Tuesday, May 6, from 7-8:30 pm at the Westchester Public Library Service Center, 100 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton. Registration is not necessary.

Russell Hodge of Erwin and Hodge Tree Care will discuss tree care. Hodge has been involved in the tree care industry for 31 years, and is from a family that has been in the industry for over 65 years. He is an ISA Certified Arborist, a tree appraiser, a state certified pesticide applicator for trees and shrubs, was a corporate tree crew safety trainer for 7 years, and, in 2004, started the formation of an “Urban Tree Care Workshop” in cooperation with the Purdue Extension Service. The workshops have been conducted throughout the state of Indiana.

Think of tree care as an investment. A healthy tree increases in value with age – paying big dividends, increasing property values, beautifying our surroundings, purifying our air, and saving energy by providing cooling shade from summer’s heat and protection from winter’s wind.

Play encourages healthy brain development while fostering exploration skills, language skills, social skills, physical skills and creativity…Libraries have long emphasized pretend (dramatic) play.” (Sue McCleaf Nespeca for the Association for Library Service to Children)
