WDSO is back on the air!

Chesterton High School’s radio station, WDSO-FM 88 is back on the air! The station broadcasts continuous music 24/7 during summer break for the Duneland Schools in June, July and August.  WDSO serves the Duneland School Corporation, the entire Duneland community, and also streams online at www.duneland.k12.in.us/wdso.  

The station will continue to broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Regular programming will air Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily with music throughout the overnight hours and on Saturday and Sunday. There will be some hour-long afterschool shows hosted by CHS students during the week.

WDSO plays a variety of music shuffling from the 1960s all the way through brand new music during each hour.  After school music shows are the choice of the on-air DJ, who will choose some of their favorite songs.

WDSO will continue its daily programming with shows like the CHS News & Events, Community Bulletin Board, Profile America from the U.S. Census Bureau, and Birdnote.  Weekly Programs include the CHS Weekly Report, Porter County Perspective, and many other features.

Special community programming returning again this year includes, among others  Historically Speaking, hosted by Serena Ard, museum curator; Pet Talk, hosted by staff members from Arbor View Animal Hospital and Art on the Air with hosts, Larry Brechner and Ester Golden who discuss upcoming art-related events and interviews with local artists.

WDSO sportscasters will broadcast home games during the regular season for CHS varsity football in the fall and boys’ and girls’ basketball during the winter months.  Some away games and post-season games will be broadcast as well.

Student management this year includes co-program directors – Hamza Sahli and Drew Malapanes; co-music directors – Charlie Byrd and Ethan Kroft; news director – Nathan Bunning; PSA director – Evan Schmidt; sports director - Shae Hisaw and promotions director – Emily Chisholm.

Matt Waters is the station manager/faculty advisor and Emily Fletcher is the operations manager.
