Washington Township Middle School wins WTMS Virtual Academic Invite

Led by first place finishes in Mathematics and Interdisciplinary, Washington Township Middle School Team Black defeated second place Ben Franklin Team #1 94-78 to win the 16th Annual Washington Township Virtual Middle School Academic Invitational presented by Blythe's Athletics on Saturday, April 8.  Schools that participated in the WTMS Academic Invitational were Ben Franklin Middle School, Hobart Middle School, and River Forest Middle School   “The American Woman:  A Century of Progress, 1920-2020”  was the theme for this year’s academic competitions.

All of the middle schools participating in the WTMS Academic Invitational will compete in the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) Academic Virtual Super Bowl-Jr. Division state competition on Monday, May 3rd.  Ben Franklin and Hobart will compete in Class 1, River Forest in Class 3, and Washington Township in Class 4.

Subject Winners

Ben Franklin Team #2 won the English competition by defeating second place Washington Township Black 19-17.  Team members include:  Abby Wright (captain), Magdalena Gibson, Alex Taglia.

Washington Township Team Black won the Mathematics competition by defeating second place River Forest 17-11.  Team members include:  Sam Bunag (captain), Camden Bell, and Nicole Bunag.

Ben Franklin Team #1 won the Science competition on the third tie breaker by tying Washington Township Black and Washington Township Red with 21 points each.  Team members include: Amber Johnson (captain), Andrew Chen, Glori Liv.

Washington Township Team Red won the Social Studies competition by defeating Washington Township Black 20-19.  Team members include:  Dani Gonzales (captain) and Owen Gilbert.

Washington Township Team Black won the Interdisciplinary competition on the second tie breaker by tying Washington Township Red with 20 points each.  Team members include:  Drew Gschwind (captain), Jason Bunag, Sam Bunag and Madalyn Richardson.
