Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana and Valparaiso University Men’s Basketball Coach, Roger Powell Jr., have teamed up to provide mentoring to our Club kids.
Coach Powell, through his organization, The Rev Foundation, will be engaging in three sessions at the Hammond, Portage and Gary Clubs that will include inspirational mentoring about perseverance, self-confidence and positive thinking.
“Having a partnership like this, with a well-respected coach that kids look up to, is the kind of mentorship programming our Clubs are built for,” noted Mike Jessen, President & CEO. “We are excited to give kids the opportunity to meet players, hear their stories, and learn what it means to set and achieve goals.”
After an inspirational large group presentation, Coach Powell and his team engaged with members in the STEM and art rooms. In smaller groups, they discussed setting goals and achieving them with our Club kids. The partnership will continue at the Portage and Gary Clubs later this fall. The program will culminate with 100 members and staff visiting the Valparaiso University campus for a college tour and basketball game.
