Volleyball suffers road defeat at Parkside, 3-1

Purdue Northwest raced out to an early lead by taking the opening set, 25-21, at Wisconsin-Parkside Friday night, but the host Rangers came out on top in the match, 3-1.

Parkside won the final three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-15.

Autumn Beaudoin led PNW with 11 kills while hitting .200 on the night in a team-high 35 total attacks. She also recorded six digs and three block assists, finishing with 12.5 points in the contest.

Erica Brohm swung at a team-best .368 percentage with eight kills and only one error in 19 total attempts. Bryanna Moonen chipped in with six kills while Rachel Wilkening added five. Wilkening registered four block assists and a pair of block solos.

Setters Abigail Negri and Holly Faley dished out 19 and 16 assists, respectively. Negri added nine digs and two aces. Libero Danielle Fowler collected a team-high 23 digs on defense.

PNW (0-7) led the entire opening set to start the match with an 1-0 advantage. The Pride jumped out to a 7-3 lead following kills by Beaudoin and Wilkening, and then led by as much as five before sealing the squad's first set victory of the year.

Then, Parkside (2-7) started off hot in the second set to even the match at 1-1. The Rangers jumped out to a 13-5 lead and the Pride couldn't recover.

In the third set, PNW was able to overcome an early 7-2 deficit to pull within one, and then the teams exchanged points the rest of the way. Back-to-back kills by Beaudoin and Duggan made it a one-point game with Parkside leading 21-20. However, the hosts rattled off the final five points to steal the set which proved to be the turning point in the match.

The Rangers never trailed in the fourth set after going up 15-9.

PNW posted an overall team hitting percentage of .153 with 38 kills and 18 errors on 131 total attacks. Parkside hit .268 overall as a group, while recording eight aces.

Three Parkside players reached double digits in the kills column, including Hallie McGuire (15), Reese Rossnagel (14) and Jazmine Neal (10).
