Valparaiso High School’s Senior Brandon Newman Signing with Purdue

Purdue University has just recruited one of its highest rated recruits of three, senior basketball player Brandon Newman.

After classes on Friday November 16th 2018, students, teammates, family, and friends gathered to celebrate Brandon sign his commitment over to Purdue including a full ride and a place on the Boilermaker basketball team.

Ron Newman, father of Brandon, was smiling ear to ear during the ceremony for his son.

“I’ve been blessed. We as his family appreciate all of the support,” Newman said. “They have helped nurture this young man into the kid that he is today. He is so humble, and caring of the game. We are so proud!”

Newman is known as a 4-star recruit according to ESPN, a 4-star and No. 75 overall according to Rivals, and a 4-star and 118th overall according to 247. According to MaxPreps statistics, he shoot 43% from the three point and last season helped the Vikings with a 20-6 record and sectional title.

Coach Barak Coolman expressed his excitement for Brandon, his family, and friends.

“Brandon is a really smart young man who surrounds himself around good people who make good choices,” Barak said. “It’s an exciting day for me as a coach. This whole room cares about Brandon.”

Brandon Newman, senior basketball player at VHS, was elated as the school gathered together to celebrate this major leap in his basketball and educational career.

“I want to thank everyone out for coming out. This day really means a lot to me, it’s a dream come true to have school paid for and continue to play basketball. It’s what I love to do,” Newman expressed.

Today marks an exciting journey for Brandon, his family, his coach, and Valparaiso High School as a whole. We wish Brandon well on his adventures at Purdue!
