Valparaiso Boys Soccer tops Lake Central 3-1, don pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness

Valparaiso Boys Soccer closed out their season with a game to remember - a 3-1 victory over the Lake Central Indians secured a three-way tie for the Duneland Athletic Conference Championship. All on a day where they were “Kicking it for a Cause,” donning pink jerseys and working with the American Cancer Society to raise breast cancer awareness.

The idea for a “cause night” originally came from Valpo Head Coach Mike Enghofer. Believing it important to have the team give back to the community, he asked the boys to vote on a cause that they wanted to support. It did not take them long to settle on breast cancer awareness.

“Breast cancer awareness month is coming up, and we all know a lot of people and families who have struggled with breast cancer and we thought it’d be nice to honor them,” said Jack Isroff, a junior on the team. “We’re more than just soccer, we want to play for them – win for them.”

And win he did, Isroff pulled off a hat-trick, playing the hero by netting all three goals for the Vikings.

The Vikings are set to face-off with the Chesterton Trojans at Sectionals next Tuesday, they’ll be out for revenge after the Trojans dealt them a 6-0 loss earlier in the season. The Indians, meanwhile, will battle East Chicago Central on Monday night in their Sectional matchup.
